Hello, my friend, you already know what will be discussed in this article, if you already know before going to the core of the tutorial, I will tell you my experience with this problem first, maybe not important for you, but it's important enough for me to make this article easy to find. on google search.
In the past, when I first had a laptop that used Windows 10, something annoying happened like the title of this
article, Windows can restart when shut down, I was also confused about this (suspecting my computer was
damaged), especially at that time I still didn't understand computer problem.
So the symptoms are after the computer is turned off, the power indicator is still on, but the screen and fan
are off, I type the keyboard which makes the computer turn on again, and if the laptop is closed and opened, the
windows will turn on automatically like the sleep feature, but there is a difference, and the difference is I
forget what 😂.
At that time this problem was very annoying, because I thought it would make the battery run out and I was
worried that the laptop was damaged, after looking here and there I found the answer, namely the latest Windows
fast start up feature which is active by default, this feature is useful so it doesn't take a long time to turn
on computers, maybe it will be very helpful for those who still use hard disk storage, if you use SDD you don't
need to use it (because ssd is fast).
For the laptop that I use today, even though the fast start-up feature is on, fast start-up doesn't cause
problems like before, now you have to press the power button first and then it can turn on. I think what
happened on the previous laptop was because there were still bugs, especially when this new feature was just
launched.
But another problem arises when I try to use dual boot linux, when linux wants to access the hard drive there
is an error warning, so the hard disk cannot be opened. After I examined it, it turned out that Windows still
used the hard disk to run the fast start up feature so Linux couldn't access it, because I switched operating
systems quite often, finally I just turned off the fast start up feature.
That's the background, I also suggest turning off fast start-up, if you want to boot quickly please change the
storage device to an SSD which is proven to be 10 ++ times faster than a hard disk, because in my opinion
Windows using an SSD is safer and more comfortable.
Good. The story is quite long, below I will explain 2 ways to deal with windows that turn on again after
shutdown.
1. Setting Power Options (Turn off fast start-up)
-
Please look for the power & sleep menu in the application search in windows.
-
Once you've got it and opened it up, look for additional power settings at the bottom, then click on the
text.
-
This action will open a new window as shown below, click the words "choose what the power ..." what
I red box.
-
After that, a new window will open again as shown below, here you can see the turn on fast start up
menu which is still checked, our goal is to remove the check, before removing it so that it can be clicked
please click change settings that are currently.
-
Now you can click and uncheck it, please save the settings by clicking the save changes button.
2. Edit Registry
I actually got this second method from other articles on the internet, and some of the comments worked. so
that's why I also included it in this article. But because I have never tried it directly, I do not
recommend this second method, I prefer you to use the first method only.
- Please look for the Registry Editor menu, you can search for it like the previous method.
-
Then Windows will display a row of file folders, please look for PowerDownAfterShutdown whose
location is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion >
Winlogon (please search quietly😁).
-
After you find it, please double click on the file name, then a dialog will appear as shown below,
please try changing the value from 0 to 1 or otherwise, click OK to save it.
